A Six-Step Model for Evaluation of Community-based Physical Activity Programs

Physical activity is a leading health indicator (1) and has numerous benefits, including reduced risk of coronary heart disease, hypertension, colon cancer, and diabetes (2). Regular physical activity can help prevent the onset of diabetes (3), even among those at high risk (i.e., those with impaired glucose tolerance [4]), and is part of diabetes selfmanagement among people with the disease (5).
